Marion County Country Ham Days…

Marion County Country Ham Days is one of the oldest and most successful community festivals in Kentucky. First celebrated in 1970 with six hams and a handful of visitors, now more than 6,000 pounds of country ham are needed to serve the thousands of visitors who travel to Lebanon each year during the last full weekend in September.

Celebrating its 40th year, the theme for 2009 is “Rockin’ on 68 since 1969,” reminding visitors of Lebanon's unique entertainment heritage. Lebanon was once home of well-know venues such as Club 68, The Golden Horseshoe, Kitty Kat Club, Club Cherry, Jane Todd Inn, Bens’ Discotheque and The Plantation Club.

Besides a country ham breakfast under a tent, Ham Days features the PIGasus Parade with more than 100 entrants, contests, a street dance with live entertainment, carnival rides, a classic car, truck and motorcycle show, art and crafts, a flea market, the Farmers National Bank Pokey Pig 5K Fun Run/Walk and much more.

The 2009 Grand Marshall is Coyote Calhoun, one of the most popular night jocks in WAKY radio history!

Bring the entire family to this fun-filled event and enjoy the country life of Kentucky at its finest at a big time festival with small town charm.

Judging for the contest will take place in the courtyard at Farmers National Bank on Main Street at noon. Then it’s the annual “Slop the Hogs” contest Tues., Sept. 22, at Centre Square at noon. Divided into heats, this is a ham biscuit eating competition that ends with the battle to become the Champion Hog Slopper.

On Thurs., Sept. 24, the Swine & Dine is from 6-9 p.m. Local restaurants, including Chasers, Henning’s at Rosewood, The Oak Barrel and Los Mariachis will offer Ham Days Dinner Specials and each will invent a signature Ham Days cocktail. Visitors can buy a $3 ballot or get one free with any purchase at the Ham Days Country Store and get $1 off the Ham Days Dinner Special at each restaurant and one-half off their first signature cocktail at each restaurant.
