Tennis Open…

Usually held the third weekend in August, this is one of the most competitive legs of the Central Kentucky Tennis Series.

The competition is fierce but there are plenty of divisions and levels to give every entry a fighting chance. A complete list can be found below.  The tournament is open to anyone but CKTS members are also vying for points on a circuit that also includes tournaments in Harrodsburg, Danville, Elizabethtown,  Liberty, Campbellsville, Bardstown and Glasgow. CKTS members that win points races are honored at a banquet in November each year.

Players can enter a maximum two events and a division “makes” if it has at least two entries. If a division has only three entries, that division is played round robin. A division with four or more players has a bracket draw.

All matches in each division will play a super tie-breaker instead of a third set.

Champions and runners-up of each division get a trophy and very nice trophies have been purchased for the 2009 tournament.  All players get a T-shirt to commemorate their participation and visit to Lebanon.

There is no general admission for spectators and parking is free. Entry fees for players are based on the division and CKTS membership status.

The tournament might be re-scheduled if there is inclement weather and entry fees are non-refundable. In 2009, the contingency date is Sat., Aug. 29, starting at 9 a.m. Players unable to compete at that time will default.

The tournament is held at the beautiful Graham Memorial Park, Marion County High School and Idle Hour (Springfield, Ky.) Park and all locations are close to dining and lodging facilities. There are numerous amenities to serve the youngest children and oldest adults at Graham Memorial Park, including the Lebanon Aquatic Center with its 100-foot winding water slide. Call Hampton Inn of Lebanon at 270.699.4000 and ask for the Farmers National Bank/Heart of Kentucky Tennis Open special event rate.

Teams can register online here.

For more information, call Steve Humphress at 270.692.9152 or e-mail humphress6@alltel.net. The entry deadline of 6 p.m. EST, Tues., Aug. 18, is firm.  Due to limited number of courts, the entry deadline may be closed sooner once the maximum number of players are entered.
