Cruise-In

The registration is $7 per vehicle and all participants and spectators will be charged general admission. Registration is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Trophy winners are voted by fellow participants and winners must be present to receive trophy.

All participants in the People's Choice and Ugly Truck contest must bring a bucket to place with their vehicle. The public votes the winner by tossing in money. The bucket with the most money at closing wins. The winner keeps the money and gets a trophy. Others' funds go to Penn's Store Preservation Fund.

The "Great Outhouse Blowout" is held annually to celebrate and preserve Kentucky's rural heritage, its history and Historic Penn's Store. Proceeds from this year's GOB will go toward restoring Historic Penn's Store due to the May 2, 2010 flood damages. For donation information go to www.PennsStore.com.

Held in October, the Great Outhouse Blowout was born from the Outhouse Dedication ceremony on Sept. 8, 1992 at Historic Penn’s Store in Gravel Switch. It’s held annually to celebrate and preserve Kentucky’s rural heritage.

The Blowout features the Great Outhouse 300 Race, a slate of 100-yard drag races with outhouses on wheels, the Car, Truck & Motorcycle Country Cruise-In, the Parade of Privies, the Ugly Truck Contest, live music all day, the Outhouse Bachelor Contest, the Ugly Legs Contest, summer and autumn produce, arts/crafts vendors, books and authors, kids booth, outhouse games, door prizes and plenty of great food.

The Outhouse 300 features an Open division, All-Girls Division and Prime Privy Division (40 years old and over).  Prizes are $300 (sponsored by Tarter Farm & Ranch) for first, $200 (sponsored by Stuart Powell Ford) for runner-up and $100 (sponsored by J&J Auto) for third place.

General admission is $10 per vehicle. (Car, truck, motorcycle,ATV, Horse & Buggy). RV Parking/Camping available (contact Penn's Store). Bring a chair or blanket.

  • 1:00 p.m. Gret Outhouse Blowout Concert Series Begins - Performances by: Dix River Crossing (Bluegrass), Payne & Waters (Country), Dawn Osborn (Blues), Salvation Street Blues (Blues), Frankly Scarlett (Rock)
  • 4:00 p.m. Cruise-In Trophies awarded (at car show registration table)
  • 5:45 p.m. Cahmpionship Race & Awards, Silent Auction winners announced, Car Show winners announced
  • 6:00 p.m. Great Outhouse Blowout Concert Series continues
  • 8:00 p.m. Event closes

Directions

  • From Centre Square, drive one block south on KY 55/Spalding Ave. to light (Main St.).

  • Turn left onto U.S. 68/Main St. and continue for 10.8 miles.
  • Turn right onto KY 243 and continue for 1.4 miles then bear left onto KY 243 continuation.
  • Drive 2.5 miles then turn right onto KY 243 continuation.
  • Turn right onto Penn’s Store Road just after making that turn.
  • Historic Penn’s Store is straight ahead at 257 Penn's Store Rd., Gravel Switch KY 40328.
